A newsletter for healthcare professionals exploring alternative careers
Hey Reader,
A new record has been broken in the world of FemTech. π
βThe period tracking app Flo Health has raised $200M and has become Europe's first ever FemTech unicorn π¦ (which if you didn't know already, is a company valued over $1 Billion).β
That sounds great, right? π
Well, not quite...
Some people are p*ssed.
Why, you ask?
Because Flo Health, a period tracking app, is a company founded by men, led by men, and funded by men.β
Before you roll your eyes and click off this e-mail, let me explain why that's a problem.
βOnly 2% of venture capital funding goes to women. Women founders face a lot of discrimination and challenges when it comes to raising funding for their businesses, so it can be really frustrating to see that even in women's health spaces, the money is going to companies founded and led by men.
βThere are countless female founders working in this space, who are really struggling to get funding.
Anna-Sophie, co-founder of Female Invest, has articulated this issue really well in this LinkedIn post. I encourage you to read it if the problem is still not clear to you.
In any case, I'm really excited to see more money going toward women's health - it's about damn time!
βAnywho, let's dive into this week's issue...
